Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Daryl graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Laurentian University in 1993 and proceeded to article with Grant Thornton LLP (North Bay) for the next several years. In 1996 he obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation and joined BDO Dunwoody LLP (Sudbury) where he practiced primarily in the area of taxation. Having completed the two-year In-Depth Tax Course with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) in 1998, Daryl had received in-house recognition as a “Tax Specialist” with BDO Dunwoody LLP and continued to be responsible for providing tax solutions to the clientele of both the Sudbury and Little Current offices as well providing ongoing staff training. In 1999, he obtained his Certified Financial Planning (CFP) designation. Daryl was a “Senior Tax Manager” and regional tax committee member with BDO Dunwoody prior to making his decision to leave the firm in 2003 to form Laberge Venne & Partners.
Daryl is actively involved in all facets of taxation planning and compliance requirements. Currently a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, he has written several newspaper articles for various publications and is an active speaker and lecturer on tax issues specific to the small business owner. As part of his commitment to the CA profession, Daryl has serviced both the national and provincial CA bodies in their examination process for CA students since 2000. In addition, he annually acts as a seminar leader for the one-week tax component of the provincial School of Accountancy and has been doing so since 2003. Having a great fondness for animals, Daryl was an active board member of the North-Bay Mattawa Humane Society prior to his return to Sudbury in 1996. Since that time, he has served as the treasurer for the Sudbury-Manitoulin Alzheimer’s Society for five years. Daryl also volunteers and coordinates other local CA’s during March and April in their efforts to assist low-income individuals and seniors in the preparation of their personal income tax returns. An active member of the Sudbury and District CA Association, Daryl has been on the organization’s Executive Committee since 2003. In addition, Daryl has recently become a member of the Walden Kinsmen Club and looks forward to many years of assisting this organization in its fundraising and fellowship activities. |
